We here a lot about finding one self, sadly we never ask is there such a thing as the self. Brooce Hood's The Self Illusion How the Social Brain Creates Identity is an excellent book for you to explore the idea of what the "True Self" is. It is a light reading (it will not scare you with psychological jargon) and most importantly it will inform you how the social values impact the thing we call inner directives.
